The Sons of Rest movement started in Birmingham in 1927 when a group of “industrial veterans” met at Handsworth Park. The first purpose built building was created in 1930 and the movement expanded to over 3000 members in 29 parks. At Cannon Hill Park members meet to socialise and play games.
FLR were asked to provide access for wheel chair users at the Sons of Rest based in Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham. FLR’s challenge was to arrange for the site survey, plans and ramp drawings to suit both compliance and conservation. Managing to source the exact bricks from a collapsed 16th Century Church.
The ramp was constructed using the recycled brick, a resin bound surface, a bespoke metal handrail with timber cappings and finished in two colours identifying landings and risings.
Loving and admiring the new ramp at Sons of Rest, Cannon Hill Park.
