Stair nosings and their practicality
Stair nosings protect the main floor covering on the stairs. If you have carpeted stairs, for instance, the very edge of each step can become faded and worn with use, since most people step on the very edge when ascending stairs. Well fitted nosings extend the life of your stair covering.
Why are stair nosings necessary?
Any workplace must adhere to Health and Safety Executive guidance and legislation. If you do not provide a safe environment you can be held liable to pay compensation to anyone injured as a result, and can even face criminal charges.
Stairways are often the site of trips and slips and so must be properly fitted and maintained to minimise the risk of injury. The HSE has lots of advice on making stairways safe. It says that stair nosings must be:
• easy to see
• not slippery.
The HSE advise that you highlight the edge of the step with a highly visible, slip resistant nosing.
The purpose of stair nosings is to ensure that people using the stairs can see the edges properly so that they do not accidentally over- or under-step and fall.
Why choose FLR Group
It is vital that stair nosings are fitted correctly, since their whole purpose of preventing trips and slips would be completely undermined if a person tripped on a nosing that was not securely installed.
FLR Group supply and fit top-quality flooring products including stair nosings and have been doing so for over 30 years. We can work to tight deadlines and always keep disruption to a minimum. Our fitters have been DBS checked to enable them to work in more sensitive settings, such as schools and nursing homes.
