The Brief
Feal Pilates is a new boutique reformer studio in Moseley, Birmingham, built around the idea that movement, recovery and good nourishment belong in the same place. From the mat and reformer studios to the treatment rooms and wellness bar, every part of the building has been designed to feel calm, uncluttered and easy to be in.
An award-winning, Birmingham-based design and build consultancy was appointed to turn that concept into a finished studio, and they brought us in to handle the flooring from the ground floor to the office upstairs. The client wanted something quiet and cohesive underfoot that would still cope with reformers, bare feet and busy class changeovers day after day. Our brief was to specify a scheme that did both: a two-tone luxury vinyl tile (LVT) layout to give the studios and treatment rooms their own identity, carpet tiles for the office and stairs, and stair nosings to bring the whole thing together safely.

We took on the flooring across both floors of the studio, working alongside the design and build team to match each finish to how the room would actually be used. With the subfloor already fully prepared for us, we could get straight on with the laying.
The main event was Plus Floor Formation plank LVT in two complementary tones, chosen to give the studio a sense of flow without everything looking the same. A soft pastel shade runs through the ground floor treatment rooms, the one-to-one room, the corridor and the wellness bar, then carries on up the stairs to the first floor treatment room, tying the quieter, restorative side of the building together. In the mat studio, reformer studio and store, we switched to a warmer, silvery clay tone that visually marks out the spaces built for movement. The two colours meet with crisp, clean transitions, so each area reads as its own room while still feeling like part of one scheme. LVT plank also earns its place practically: it copes well with the constant traffic of a class-based studio, is comfortable underfoot for barefoot work, and is simple to keep clean between sessions.
Upstairs we fitted out the office as well. Where the existing vinyl could be saved, we patch-repaired and smoothed it, then laid new cushion flooring to the rear. CFS Medina carpet tiles cover the main office and the staircase, adding warmth and a little sound absorption to the working space. To finish, we installed new single-channel stair nosings on both staircases, giving each step a clear, safe edge.
Our team managed the job from first plank to final nosing, coordinating around the other trades on site so the fit-out kept moving. It was completed on programme and to the standard the design team and client were after.
We've Got It Covered
The finished floor does exactly what a space like this needs it to do: it stays out of the way. The two Plus Floor LVT tones give Feal Pilates a gentle sense of direction as you move through the building, from the soft pastel of the treatment rooms and wellness bar to the warmer clay of the studios, without a single loud moment anywhere. Paired with the carpet tiles in the office and the new stair nosings on both staircases, the result is a scheme that looks calm, feels good underfoot and will shrug off the daily traffic of a busy studio.
The design and build team were great to work with, and the feedback since opening has been really positive. Feal Pilates now has a home in Moseley that matches the care that has gone into everything else about it, and we're proud to have laid the foundation for it. In a space built around balance, everything starts with the ground beneath your feet, and we're confident this floor will keep looking and performing beautifully for many years to come.
